Starting on August 14, 2023, tobacco products sold in Oman will have to be sold in plain packaging. This means that the packaging will have to use the same colors and fonts, and 65% of the packaging will have to include a message about how bad tobacco is for your health.
For cigars, this means that the designs on the bands and boxes will be gone. Instead, every cigar will have a simple band with text printed on it to show which cigar it is. This is similar to what Australia and Ireland have already done.
The Ministry of Health in Oman is doing this to try to discourage people from smoking. They hope that by making the packaging less attractive, people will be less likely to start smoking or to continue smoking.
